| Since 2005, the Smoke Free Derby (SFD) initiative has aimed to highlight and drive forward the Tobacco Control and Smoking Cessation agenda in the city. |
|
The initiative was developed through collaboration between Central and Greater Derby PCTs (now Derby City PCT), Derby City Council, the Fresh Start NHS stop smoking service and Derbyshire Action on Smoking. An initial action plan was developed, identifying several key objectives for tobacco control work in the city: |
- Promoting and lobbying for the smoke-free agenda in Derby
- Supporting workplaces to become smoke-free
- Promoting smoking cessation and the local NHS stop smoking service
- Tackling smoking among young people, including under-age sales of tobacco products
- Tackling smuggling and counterfeiting issues

| As part of their commitment to a Smoke Free Derby, the City Council and PCTs endorsed the Smoke Free Derby Charter on No Smoking Day (March 8th) 2006. | In addition to the useful advice and information found on this site, Smoke Free Derby can provide hands-on support to enable local employers to comply with the new legislation, or to help employees who want to stop smoking. To find out more, contact James Convery on 01332 861178 or by email. |
